WORKSHOP CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: International Workshop on "Senior Cloud"
Half-day Workshop: Sat, Apr 5, 2014 at the University of Tokyo, Japan.

International Workshop on "Senior Cloud"
ICT for Active Aging

Aging has been discussed mainly in terms of its negative factors such as declining abilities and deteriorating health. However, there are also many positive aspects of aging. For example, senior citizens possess a large variety of knowledge, skills, and experiences. Many abilities, such as semantic memory, procedural memory, and crystallized intelligence, do not decline with age. Statistics show that the majority of senior citizens are basically healthy and motivated to continue contributing to their society. If technologies can help them take on roles appropriate to their knowledge and skills, they can be precious, long-tail resources to help improve the world.

The University of Tokyo and IBM Research – Tokyo are working together on the Senior Cloud project, which aims to develop an ICT platform with a novel social model that enhances the power of senior citizens. The project includes interface technologies to collect and transfer knowledge from senior citizens and analytics technologies to give structure to the knowledge and make it available for people to do thing in better ways. Our Senior Cloud will enhance the social involvement and quality of life of the elderly and, in parallel, allow their knowledge and skills to continue advancing their society. However there are still many missing components needed to create the Senior Cloud platform.

This workshop aims to share the experiences of researchers and practitioners worldwide who are working on technologies that can encourage active aging. We will discuss how these technologies can further enhance society for more energetic seniors. Please come to Japan, the world’s most aged country, to share your expertise in this area and to discuss future technologies for active aging.
